Two kinds of country on the same deed

The uplands here grub like most Rolling Plains pasture — steady, even, and the machine gets into a rhythm. The bottoms do not. Big trees, tangled root structures, and cover you often want to keep some of. We bid them separately because they are separate work, and we will walk both with you before we put a number on either.

If somebody hands you one flat per-acre price for a place that has both, he has not looked at it.

We are out of Jayton, one county west. That is a short move-in to anywhere in Stonewall County, and move-in is a bigger share of a small job’s cost than most landowners realize — it costs the same to get the machines to you whether you are grubbing forty acres or four hundred. Why grubbing and not shredding, on this ground in particular

Heavy bottom mesquite is exactly the mesquite that comes back worst from shredding. Mesquite carries a bud zone at and just below the soil line; cut the top off and those dormant buds release, and a big established tree has the root system to push that regrowth hard. Two or three years later you have a thicket where you had trees — and a thicket is more expensive to deal with than what you started with.

Grubbing pulls the root crown out from below the bud zone. It costs more on the day, and done right it is the version of this job you buy once — with spot work on new seedlings, not another clearing job.

Every acre is mapped

Your job goes in as a shapefile before a machine moves, and the plan loads into the cab. The excavators run GPS over Starlink, so what gets grubbed is recorded as it is grubbed. When we finish you get the map — every acre treated and what was left standing — not just an invoice.
